Hello to whoever is reading this.
I'll start off with the usual stuff..my name is Elizabeth but I go by Liz. I'm in my early 30's, according to many people I look like im still in the mid 20's, which is fine by me! I was born and brought up in Ireland. My childhood was so great but a couple of things did happen to my family, like most families out there- no one is perfect.
After finishing school I went to university & got a degree in Finance. Very boring but it helps pay the bills.
When I finished uni I got a job but a couple of years after I got bored and so I started my mammoth travelling tour. I planed to be gone about a year but that turned into about 4 years. During this time I didn't see my family. The question most people ask is 'what the fuck was I at all that time?'.
Well, I travelled China for 3 months, worked in India for about 9 months, travelled around India for an additional 9 months, lived in new Zealand for 1 year. The rest of my time was spent travelling many other countries like Thailand , Cambodia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka to name a few.
The most heart stopping moment during my travels was being caught up in the 2004 Tsunami. I was in southern India at the time and I remember watching the tv looking at how the events unfolded. I didn't have a mobile phone at the time so I use to use public phones. The q for the phone was at least 20 people long so I didn't bother waiting. So when I eventually did get a chance to use the phone it was 2 days later. I called home and my dad answered, and he started crying cause he thought I was a gone. This is the 1st and only time I've heard my dad crying. He than told me that I was on the missing persons list which the Irish government had complied. To this day I can't forgive myself for not waiting in that q to call home so I could tell my family I was safe.
A few days later I flew to Bangkok , I walked down a street where most of the backpackers hang out and I saw one side of the street covered with missing persons, the other side has the most heart stopping I have ever seen. I'm crying even now at the memory. The side of that street had pictures of body parts recovered. Asking people if they recognised any part of it. It was mostly pictures of tattoos asking of you recognised it. These pictures were of people who had lost their lives and who needed to be claimed.
Going through that completely changed me. I am lucky that I'm still here and even now I say a prayer for the people who lost their lives and their families.
After that I went into a 'relationship' with a fella, the less said the better. It lasted about 4yrs. After I realised what a total dick he was, I got out of it. I was left a broken person and I thank the echelon & 30 seconds to mars for helping to save me.
So, now I'm living in London. The main reason is that there is no jobs in Ireland. But on a good note, my family have moved here too so I'm very lucky to have my parents just around the corner to me. I've got a good job, but I work crazy hours. Working 12-14 hours a day is not unusual.
Today, it's snowing outside and the world look so fresh and pure. It's like a new beginning, a new world, a better world. I believe in karma, I believe that if I can just make 1 person smile maybe in turn they can make someone else smile and make the world just a tiny tiny bit more bearable.
